Austin Adams was born in 1913 in Oldham to parents Charles and Ellen. At some point after his birth the family moved to Royton, where his mother Ellen hailed from. He married Nora Dale at St Anne's church in Royton in 1939.
Adams joined one of the local Royal Tank Regiment units and his whereabouts can be seen by clicking on his unit link above. The 47th RTR found themselves taking part in the Second Battle of El Alamein which started on 23rd October 1942 and Austin Adams was killed the very next day when some high explosive hit the turret of the tank he was in. Adams was the Troop Sergeant of Number 5 troop.
